It was a high watermark in the stealth action genre, perfecting the MGS formula with a story that packed in cold war paranoia, big drama and just the right amount of silliness. And now it's back. Konami has brought back the classic and reworked it from the ground up for the current generation of consoles, staying faithful to the blockbuster original while levelling it up for current hardware. MGS3 was chosen for the remake treatment because its narrative takes you right back to the storied franchise's origins. It's the 1960s, and FOX operative Naked Snake has a doozy of a job on his hands. The Soviets have developed a nuclear superweapon, and it's up to him/you to sabotage it, exfiltrate a prominent Soviet rocket scientist and deal with your former mentor, The Boss, who has defected to the Russians. Bad times all round for Snake, good times for you, the player. Out in the sweltering jungle, you'll need to outthink your enemies, stalking them through the undergrowth, using camouflage, taking them out in close quarters combat, interrogating them, climbing and just generally being a sneaky so-and-so. This is an extremely faithful adaptation of a stone cold classic, a real nostalgia-fest for players who were there for MGS3 first time round and a great jumping-on point for newcomers.
